A Little About Me

I began my journey into Counselling following work with a wonderful therapist. Feeling safe to speak freely; listened to uninterrupted and with no judgement, led me to realise that I wanted to create that opportunity for others. So began the studying, examinations, and training to enable myself to offer Counselling support today.

I am aware of the pressure you may feel, attending a first session. There are fears of what you will talk about; will you even like the counsellor; will you unravel once you begin to talk. Taking that first step, allows you to consider if you want to feel differently; to bring about change; to understand your experiences and emotions.

I approach each client in the same manner, aware of your uniqueness and that your interpretation and understanding of what happened or is happening to you, is to be respected and that by coming to counselling you want to be heard.

In my Counselling profession, I am a member of the BACPThe British Association for Counselling and Psychologists.

As a member, my work is underpinned by the BACP Ethical Framework and a dedication to counsel accordingly.

  • Commitment to Clients – I ensure the client is my primary focus during our sessions together. I will show respect and integrity, working to professional standards. I regularly engage in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to develop my skill set and proficiency as a therapist.
  • Ethics – The values and principles I uphold, enable appreciation for the variety of human experience and culture of my clients. I attend monthly clinical Supervision, working with a ‘time served’ therapist to explore my current practice, ensuring I maintain a safe and ethical counselling environment.
  • Good practice My contract with my client will reflect all of the above and is a fluid document that can be revisited at any time. I am qualified as an Integrative Counsellor, therefore I may feel another therapeutic model may be beneficial and we would discuss integrating this theory into the work that we do together.

My Approach

My approach when we begin our counselling journey together will begin with the understanding and reassurance that you don’t have to get better today, right here and right now. We can explore what matters to you, what problems you feel you are facing, or what goal you wish to work towards.

Therapy In Practice

The foundation of my Counselling is based on a person-centred theoretical model by Carl Rogers. His approach was that an individual lives in a world full of experiences, that will shape our thoughts, emotions, decisions, and relationships as we go through life.

I like the following quote by Carl Rogers…

“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”

We can all interpret this in our own way; what we perceive to be a “good life”; what we strive for in our work or family life; how we set goals towards what we are seeking, so that we can reflect on having a “good life”.

The First Step

Once you have made initial contact with myself either via telephone or online, we can explore Counselling and any questions you may have.

If you are happy to proceed, I will send to you our initial Counselling Agreement; a document detailing information regarding our time together. For example, location, session length and confidentiality.

We begin our first session with our Counselling Agreement, to ensure that you are happy with the document. It is something that we can revisit and change at any time.
